Live Another Day

Is there anything sadder than "Live Day"? How desperate to escape reality do you have to be to buy in to the pathetic concept that the day you narrowly avoided death and were left savagely damaged for the rest of your life is somehow a day to be memorialized and even celebrated?

How cynical do you have to be to be to attempt to convince the shattered soldier that they are lucky to be alive to suffer the daily consequences of their wounds? Do they really need anything more that a mirror to be reminded that their lives have been irreperably changed. Do they need to sanctify in any way the day it happened.

A soldier does not elect to go to war. We send soldiers to war. They dutifully go into battle to satisfy our desires. The idea that they are lucky to be alive at all by the end of the war is depraved.

If you accept the premise of Live Day you should have no trouble accepting the premise of Salary Day. Salary Day is the day your boss cuts your salary in half and then declares that you are lucky to still getting any salary at all. Your Salary Day is due solemn commemoration as you lay half a meal on your table.
